About Tony Carbonette

Tony Carbonette, Athletic Therapist, owner of Sports Performance Zone

I was 15 years old when I tore some ligaments in my knee while playing competitive hockey. I thought my hockey career was over. When I was referred to a Sports Therapist, sports injury rehab was still very new. My sports therapist told me that my injury was definitely manageable. It took 4 months of treatment—which seemed like a lifetime. I ended up playing 4 years of junior hockey—an experience I would have missed out on had I never found Sports Therapy.

In 1996, I graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie in Michigan. In 1999, I received my Sports Injuries Management diploma from Sheridan College in Oakville, Ontario, and became a certified Athletic Therapist.

Since 1999, I’ve had the pleasure of working with athletes of all calibre and skill, at both professional and community levels. My experiences have had a profound effect on my skills as a therapist.

Professional team experience:

  • NCAA Basketball, Div II
  • NCAA Wrestling, Div II
  • Canadian College Hockey
  • Ottawa Roughriders, CFL
  • Ottawa Wizards, Canadian Professional Soccer League
  • National Men’s Under 18 Team, Hockey Canada – 2007

Guest speaking appearances:

  • Canadian Academy of Sport Medicine – 2009
  • Canadian Athletic Therapists Association – 2007
  • Running Room Seminars (for over 8 years)
  • YMCA Connections Conference – 2002, 2003, 2005

I am currently in my 7th year as the Head Athletic Therapist with Hockey Canada’s Canadian National Sledge Hockey Program.
